    Fussy Vegan Approved Guidelines

    Effective date: 15 October 2019

In order to meet the requirements of a Fussy Vegan Approved business, the business must meet all of the following guidelines:

    1. We consider the term vegan to mean the following:
       a. The product or ingredient contains no animal derived components or by-products, including items such as honey or dairy.
       b. No animal derived components or by-products have been used in the manufacturing or production process. For example, using gelatine to filter and clarify apple juice would NOT be considered vegan.
       c. Please note that biodynamic farming practices are NOT considered vegan due to the confirmed use of animal derived components as part of the biodynamic farming practices. This means that any product or ingredient labelled as biodynamic is not considered vegan.
       d. The product or any ingredients have not been tested on animals.

    2. We consider the term animal to be the entire animal kingdom, including all vertebrates and multicellular invertebrates.

    3. All vegan products or ingredients sourced for any vegan products must be verified vegan. This means that the business must have either verified directly with the supplier that the ingredients/products meet the definition of vegan as listed above or the business has confirmed with us that the ingredients/products are vegan either from checking the vegan status of the ingredient/product in our Fussy Vegan Scanner or Fussy Fussy Vegan Pro apps, or by contacting us directly and letting us verify the vegan status with the supplier

    4. Any vegan products must be prepared separately from any non vegan products. Surfaces and utensils must be washed thoroughly prior to being used to prepare any vegan products. Any food handling gloves used by staff are to be changed prior to touching any vegan products.

    5. If the business also prepares and or sells non vegan products, reasonable steps must be taken to avoid cross contamination from any non vegan products or ingredients.

    6. If the business is advertised as a vegan only business, then the business must not serve any non vegan products. If the business offers for sale or for free any non vegan products, even for example if the business just has dairy milk on request or honey in a certain dish, then that business is not eligible to be Fussy Vegan Approved.

    7. If the business also serves non vegan products, then the business must either have a seperate vegan menu available or at least 25% of the menu options on the regular menu must be vegan.

We reserve the right to make a final determination as to whether a business meets our requirements. We also reserve the right to rescind any Fussy Vegan Approved status given to any business at anytime if we believe that the business is not abiding by the above guidelines. The business owner can also request that the business be removed from our approved list by requesting this in writing.

We will re-verify that the business meets the guidelines to be Fussy Vegan Approved every 12 months.
